First BugGuide image from Northwest Territories, Boreal Whiteface - Leucorrhinia borealis
Near Fort McPherson, Inuvik region, Northwest Territories, Canada
July 8, 2009
I was sorry to miss the BugGuide gathering this year, but instead went to the Yukon and Northwest Territories. One of my goals was to get some NWT insect images for BugGuide since we didn't have any yet.

With this photo, we now have all 50 states, 10 provinces, and the three territories of Canada. (Hawaii has some segregated photos on BugGuide, segregated because it is not a Nearctic location, and for the same reason we haven't been seeking photos from Guam or other U.S. tropical possessions.)

Though there were nearby shrubs, the Boreal Whitefaces preferred to perch on rocks and pebbles along side the edges of the marsh.

Nice
Wish I could have been in two places at once! Next year you'll have to shoot for Nunavut!

We missed seeing you at the gathering,
but look forward to seeing all the interesting creatures you will find on your trip.

Good work expanding BugGuide's range, Stephen...
..and a beautiful dragonfly, as well! Looking forward to seeing more images from your trip.
