small beetle on fungus - Hallomenus scapularis

small beetle on fungus - Hallomenus scapularis
Pack Forest (near Eatonville), Pierce County, Washington, USA
July 10, 2009
Size: ~3mm
I only got this one shot of this beetle. It was walking around on a polypore fungus. Not sure how far it can be identified (I'm not sure of the family) but it looks similar to these beetles.

gathering_2009

from Darren Pollock:
"It certainly appears to be Hallomenus scapularis; the genus deserve serious revisionary work. Claude Chantal had started it some years ago, but apparently, he has abandoned it... Anyway, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Nice picture, too!"

Moved from Beetles.

thanks
for tracking this down, v (and thanks to Darren Pollock).
