Ground Nesting Yellow Jacket - Vespula maculifrons - female

Ground Nesting Yellow Jacket - Vespula maculifrons - Female
Mississauga, Peel, Ontario, Canada
July 16, 2009
Theres a fast growing nest of these guys just outside my house. I was just wondering on the identification, since alot of those with blended bands on the abdomen instead of seperated spots look much the same. The second shot is a much better reference for the banding.

I tried to get one head on and the best I could manage is also in the second shot.
