Fire Ants - Solenopsis invicta

Fire Ants - Solenopsis invicta
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA
August 22, 2005
This is what I call fire ants. Please correct me if this is wrong.

Fire Ants
Once had the great misfortune of sitting on a fire ant hill (College Station TX) when I was around 4 years old. OUCH! They ate holes in my underwear and I had numerous bites. Thank God I'm not allergic! Cool photo.

Ask Alex Wild.
I'd send the image to Alex Wild at myrmecos.net and see what he says. Nice shot and he should be able to ID them easily.

Alex says,
"red imported fire ants, Solenopsis invicta"
