Dobsonfly - female - Corydalus cornutus - Female
Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia, USA

Size: 3"
Short mandibles compared to the very long ones on a male (25mm or 1"). After a few years of living and growing underwater, the larvae crawl out onto land and pupate. They stay in their cocoons over the winter and emerge only to mate. Upon emerging, they live for only seven days. Can grow up to 12.5 cm, 5 inches.

But please post her separately from him - now that you have her hooked to him, she's IDed as male, with his details. Let her have her own "file". =)

Dobsonfly female
I will make a different file for her. Good idea. The only other shot I have is a closeup of the head. I was shooting blind holding the camera over my head and shots did not all come out clear. I plan to look for another female Dobsonfly and add a good shot. The new file will be upp in about 10 mintues.
