Small-headed fly - Acrocera - female

Small-headed fly - Acrocera - Female
Camden County, New Jersey, USA
June 26, 2009
It didn't stick around long enough for me to get a good shot, but it had a yellow-orange four-leaf clover pattern on its back.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Certainly looks to be Acroceridae
but we didn't see any in the guide with that pattern. Dennis Haines may comment and tell you more.

Thanks
I didn't see any in the guide that matched either.

A female Acrocera, probably A
A female Acrocera, probably A. unguiculata Westwood, but without a close inspection of the wing venation I can't be absolutely sure. Ev may be confident enough to identify it to species.
