beetle? - Pelidnota punctata
Beacon, Dutchess - extreme Southern County, New York, USA
July 18, 2009
Size: just over an inch long
found two of these beetles on some flowering weeds surrounding a rotting tree trunk. We live on the edge of substantial woodlands and have just had a very heavy rain overnight. They haven't appeared to have moved since early this AM.
