Lactista gibbosus

Lactista gibbosus
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
May 1, 2000
Size: BL 25.5 mm
We saw this grasshopper at South Culp Valley. It looks like the photo of Tytthotyle maculata in Chapman's Grasshoppers of Deep Canyon, but it's hard to be sure. When I just checked this species on BugGuide, I see that David Ferguson found several in the Yuma area just this spring! We also saw a similar shaped grasshopper, though the color is different, in October. I will post it next.
