Only a few sting, but those that do...
...can be very painful! The Io moth and its close relative the buck moth are notorious, but they only sting if handled.

Smooth caterpillars and most "fuzzy" ones are safe to handle. And most cats with scary-looking spines are harmless, too. It just takes grabbing one buck moth to turn a predator - or human - off of spiny caterpillars, though!
