ummm..
This just doesn't look right to me. I'll pull the key tonight and see if we can't verify this. I'm thinking more along the lines of a fairly major male Mallodon dasystomus [some close matches in the guide] or maybe even Neomallodon arizonicus [that would even be better!]. I don't see the prominent tooth on the mandibles and too setose as well; the pronotum looks wrong as well.

I guess we need all those detail photos again
that I took last year of the others. I agree that my ID was hasty, comparing it to the other one. Too bad - there were scores of males and females, and this is the only one I took.

Mallodon dasystomus
You also have Neomallodon arizonicus around Tuscon - Mt. Washington, on Oak, June & July. The base of the mandibles are distinctly recessed.

I just saw it mentioned for the Chiricahuas
in a publication Linsey, Knull and Statham from 1961 (Stenodontes, Neomallodon arizonicus in 1947, 53 and 59). But now I have to find Mt Washington (?)

Mt Washington is Type locale @ 6,000 feet
according to the literature, this is fairly widespread over the SE Arizona. Map

Thanks, I'll figure it out with this -
Duquesne is a locale I wanted to black light at anyway!
