how very odd

I could swear I commented on this one a couple days ago. Anyway, it looks more like M. sanguinipes, which I believe also means red legs. It is a female, which makes certain ID difficult. The "Red-legged Grasshopper" almost always has red hind tibiae, but a lot of others have the same (some always, some only part of the time).

Latin names, oh my...

If my high school Latin serves, "femurrubrum" means "ruby-colored femur" and "sanguinipes" means "blood-colored foot." So they are basically both "red legs"!

Either sp. would be a BugGuide first for PA in July. The images aren't very good (out of focus or insect partially concealed), but do you think it's worth moving them to the genus page instead of frassing?

They're pretty fuzzy

but you can still see them pretty clearly. Since it's a pretty sure thing that they are M. sanguinipes, and there are no records for PA here yet, I'd say they might be useful to post to the species page, but if better ones come along, I'd probably Frass them. It's your call, There are lots of photos already, even if not from PA.

I'll post to species page, and if better pics from PA show up, these are totally Frassable.

If I see another M. sanguinipes, I'll try to get better pics myself!

But I think Melanoplus sanguinipes has a similar feature.
