Cellar Spider Outdoors - Holocnemus pluchei

Cellar Spider Outdoors - Holocnemus pluchei
Encino, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 12, 2003
Size: 1/4 inch
On a native honeysuckle (Lonicera hispidula vacillans) and zonal geranium (Pelargonium X hortorum) in my back yard.

Identified using this site and Hogue's Insects of the Los Angeles Basin (1).

Not Pholcus.
I just learned this specimen is not a Pholcus. It is the "marbled cellar spider," Holocnemus pluchei. Congrats on a new genus and species for bugguide:-)

I Stand Corrected
Thanks for setting me straight! While you're at it, do you think you could tell me if I'm on the right track with this one? If so, I found a similar article on earwigs I can use to apply the same "brute force" method so I can nail down the ID on my Euborellia annulipes candidate.
