Anatomy explanation.
What Phil is illustrating here are differences in the thoracic shape, as well as the shape of the scutellum (arrow), the small area between the two wing covers (elytra), near their juncture with the thorax. The insect's head is the topmost section in his drawings. Thanks, Phil, this should help me with my own specimens.
