Scarab beetle - Gymnetina cretacea
Miller Canyon, Arizona, USA
July 16, 2009
Size: 1.5-2.5 inches
this beetle was on the ground on a trail up Miller Canyon, near Sierra Vista, AZ. 15 people looked at this insect, including a local nature guide, who said that he had never seen this species before. The habitat was pine-oak woodlands mixed with spruce. The beetle was found near the base of the mountain (not an extremely high elevation).
