Looks very much like one I photographed last year, but this one has a definite red spot on the abdomen.

first thought is Anoplius semicinctus, but I have no real evidence to support that ID.

not an id, but a thought
I wonder if Mydas clavatus is a mimic of this wasp. They're both black with an orange patch in the same area. I was just noticing the resemblance.


 
You're right, you're wrong:-)
The wasp with the spider is indeed a pompilid, but something in the subfamily Pompilinae, probably a species of Anoplius. Really hard to be certain without examining the specimen, though, to rule out Arachnospila, etc.
