Matchmaker - Lucanus capreolus - male - female

Matchmaker - Lucanus capreolus - Male Female
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
July 17, 2009
I'll admit it; I introduced these two. I was taking pictures of the female on a white piece of paper, when I noticed the male, off a few feet. Well you know I HAD to see what would happen!

I brought him over and put him right next to her. Tried to get a picture of the two of them close to each other but he kept walking off. I put him back right next to her three or four times before BAM! - suddenly he noticed and he was on her in a flash. This was the first shot I got, a few seconds after he got on.
