Robber Fly - Atomosia puella

Robber Fly - Atomosia puella
Wapsipinicon State Park, Anamosa, Jones County, Iowa, USA
July 24, 2009
Size: ~1 cm
Lone individual immobile on recently cut log. (Orange background is paint on bark identifying tree for removal as hazard in park picnic area.) Dorsal view.

Edit: I just noticed in the photo that the fly is consuming another insect, possibly a braconid wasp, several of which were flying above and landing on the same log.
