any more details re: this beetle? - Anomala

Size: less than 1/2 inch long
I had a few of these beetles (coleoptera?) on my garden plants in July. I wanted to follow up and see if anyone can help me id this one? Also, if possible, please explain how you are able to id it. Thanks!

Anomala sp.
This is a scarab beetle in the genus Anomala. Please see other images in the guide for more information.
