any more details re: this beetle? - Anomala

Size: less than 1/2 inch long
I had a few of these beetles (coleoptera?) on my garden plants in July. I wanted to follow up and see if anyone can help me id this one? Also, if possible, please explain how you are able to id it. Thanks!
