Black Swallowtail Emerging - Papilio polyxenes - female

Black Swallowtail Emerging - Papilio polyxenes - Female
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA
September 3, 2005
First, let me apologize because these shots could have been much better. I just wasn't prepared and then couldn't change the settings on my camera in the 10 seconds it took this butterfly to emerge. (By the way, it took about 5 hours of watching to catch one emerging.)
