Ox Beetle - Strategus

Ox Beetle - Strategus
Lake Placid Archbold Biological Station, Highlands County, Florida, USA
July 25, 2009
Size: approx 30mm
These are referred to as rhino beetles locally but looking through the guide it appears their true common name is Ox Beetle. Any idea as to species?

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

You are right, it's a Strategus sp.
the Ox Beetle. But in Florida you seem to have nearly all the US spp. So for this female, I cannot tell which one it is. Phillp would know, I hope he sees it.

Tim, "Rhinoceros Beetle"
Tim,

"Rhinoceros Beetle" refers to the subfamily Dynastinae that covers a few tribes - including "ox beetles" and "hercules beetles".

Thank you
for the confirmation. I will move it to genus for now and perhaps it can be placed to species later. I am not sure which features are most important for beetles, I do have other shots with slightly different angles if needed. Thanks again!
