Size: 5mm (3/16")
Ants that have burrowed into a dead tree limb.
I broke off the limb and they were inside.

Please help with ID.

"Janitor ants"
I know for certain they are carpenter ants, genus Camponotus, and I also think they are "janitor ants" in the subgenus Colobopsis. Great find if so! The face of major workers is flattened to function as a literal living door to the entrance hole for foraging minor workers.
