Spined Micrathena - Micrathena gracilis - female

Spined Micrathena - Micrathena gracilis - Female
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
July 25, 2009
I had to crouch way down in the ivy and under a Mahonia aquifolium to get this shot because the spider ran along its web when it saw me point my lens at it and parked itself right here, showing me its belly.

This is a focus stack of two images - one for the abdomen, one for the rest. More images forthcoming -

great texture...
I just love how 3D the stacking makes her look. Great little hairs on her legs and bumps on her carapace.

Thanks! =)
The stacking is just to get as much focus as possible - her abdomen was out of focus in the first shot, and everything else was in the other shot, so I took the two focused parts and put them together. Yet another benefit to taking lots of shots from the same angle. ;-)
