Jumping Bristletail

Jumping Bristletail
Niagara Falls (N43º07'26"W079º04'21"), Welland, Ontario, Canada
July 11, 2009
Size: 4.5 mm
Pedetontus saltator Wygodzinsky and Schmidt, 1980. Specimen was collected on a tree trunk. ID was confirmed by microscopic examination. This species differs from the three other northeastern species by the ocellus under the eyes being shoe-shaped as opposed to triangular(1) (this is too small to capture clearly, but is visible as the dark blotch above the scape of the antenna).
