Pupa of Imported Willow Leaf Beetle - Plagiodera versicolora

Pupa of Imported Willow Leaf Beetle - Plagiodera versicolora
Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 23, 2009
Size: ~3 mm
Very brief pupation time: several larvae collected on July 21, this one pupated on July 22, and the adult emerged on July 25.

Plant: Weeping willow (Salix sp.)

to keep other species out of the main post...
...I'll add down here that the pupa looks very much like the 14-spotted lady beetle's:

There were many empty pupa cases on the willow tree, some of which had definitely belonged to lady beetles (Harmonia axyridis). I thought the small black and white cases were lady beetles too - beneficial species eating the leaf beetle larvae. No such luck...they were probably all leaf beetle pupa cases.
