Bee Fly - Exoprosopa fascipennis

Bee Fly - Exoprosopa fascipennis
Lake Placid Archbold Biological Station, Highlands County, Florida, USA
July 25, 2009
Size: 7mm
This was smaller than most of the bee flies I have previously photographed. These little flies are rapidly becoming a favorite as I begin to realize just how many species are around.

A very pretty fly.
Glad you like these; I enjoy your posting them. There are several thousand species worldwide, about 800 in North America. I've a hunch that the smaller ones are often males. I know I've never seen any of the little ones dumping eggs down burrows, so that seems to confirm my suspicions.

If you don't get an expert ID after a few days, move your post to Bee Flies.
