Syrphid Fly - Hypocritanus fascipennis

Syrphid Fly - Hypocritanus fascipennis
Uvalde, Uvalde County, Texas, USA
September 10, 2005
Size: 1/4-1/2 inch
Found this hovering like a hummingbird near this flower in the AM. It landed momentarily and was gone after a couple of shots. Anyone know what it is?

flower fly
Syrphidae; looks like Ocyptamus, maybe even O. fascipennis, judging from the wing and abdominal markings, but I don't know the distribution of that species, or what other ones you have there that might look similar to it.
