Black-and Yellow Lichen Moth - Lycomorpha pholus

Black-and Yellow Lichen Moth - Lycomorpha pholus
Watkins Glen State Park, Yates County, New York, USA
July 28, 2009
At first, I thought it was a net-winged beetle (Calopteron). So who is imitating whom? It was on the rocks in the wall of the gorge. Its presence there could be explained by an abundance of lichens on the rocks, since the larvae eat lichens. This moth appears to be diurnal.
