Question for Hershel
I am wondering if the name "cannibalfly" has any support in documented records of this species preying on other individuals of its own species? Preying on flies of different species is not cannibalism in my book. Thanks for all your info on robber flies....

Take a look at Promachus rufipes
I am not a robber fly expert (but have played one on TV) and that's what I call these buggers when I see them down your neck of the woods.

robberfly, possibly Genus Promachus
It might be Genus Promachus - Giant Robber Flies. Wait and see what the experts have to say.
