High Drama: Robber Fly takes wasp - Urocerus albicornis

High Drama: Robber Fly takes wasp - Urocerus albicornis
Noonan, York County, New Brunswick, Canada
July 28, 2009
The fly has succeeded in turning the wasp on its back. This is the fourth and last location where the fly took the wasp, within a space of about 4 feet. After this, it flew away with its prey, no doubt having immobilized it.

Two other photos moved to Asilidae here:

Moved
Moved from ID Request. Since you have two nice bugs here, I've moved this one to the horntail page and the other two to robber flies in the hopes you get an ID from an expert there... I've placed thumbnails of the images in the separated pages so we can still "link" them in a way...

interesting shots
Glad you posted them. That's some big prey for it. Usually I find robberflies with something less than half their size.

very dramatic indeed! prey: Urocerus albicornis, a horntail
more uncommon than the robber!
