Common Aerial Yellowjacket - worker - Dolichovespula arenaria - female

Common Aerial Yellowjacket - worker - Dolichovespula arenaria - Female
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
September 10, 2005

Right - Dolichovespula arenaria
Most probably a worker, although a smallish young queen cannot be completely excluded. Nice shot. It was cleaning its hind legs by rubbing them each other, like most vespids very often do before flying off.
