Captured while it was nectaring on flowers; specimen is a bit worn when I found it unfortunately; I suspect this is the northwestern fritillary (Speyeria hesperis)..would like confirmation. Thanks!

Correct, Speyeria hesperis, with qualifications
This is part of a very distinctive prairie population of Fritillaries, which some authors consider to be a distinct species that has been called Speyeria lais. Some put it into S. atlantis instead.

It is listed in John Pelham's catalog as Speyeria hesperis ssp. dennisi, a younger name, but the valid one. It has also been called helena.

Confusing isn't it. Since we are following the Pelham catalog here, you will find the name Speyeria hesperis ssp. dennisi used.

By the way, it's a female
