Regal Moth - Citheronia regalis

Regal Moth - Citheronia regalis
Clarksville, montgomery County, Tennessee, USA
August 2, 2009
Size: 2 half 3 inch
This is the first time I have ever seen this beautiful Moth. I found It interesting because of its pincers located on the tail. Do these insects carry poison or is this a defense
