Two leafhopper-like insects - Gyponana

Took these photos of the brown insect, not knowing it was sitting next to the green insect (until I got home and checked out the photos). Leafhoppers?

I put this under Gyponana (see Dr. Hamilton's ID on the accompanying picture) as we have LOTS of Meadow Spittlebugs.

I believe...
The brown insect is a meadow spittlebug (Philaenus spumarius) and the green one is a leafhopper nymph, Gyponana or Ponana. I'm still not totally sure what distinguishes the latter two.

distinguishing between
Ponana and Gyponana. Charley, Dr. Hamilton mentioned something in another post.

Thanks, Charley,
Thanks for the help. I still don't know the difference between spittlebugs and leafhopppers. They all look the same to me. Maybe some day...

leafhopper vs. spittlebug...
Pretty easy once someone points it out to you. Not so easy before then.

For leafhoppers, just looks for the spines on the legs like this one below. The spines are also present on the nymphs.

Spittlebugs have spine-free legs. See image below

Great!
That was easy. Thanks, Lynette.
