Explanation of Names
UNDULATA: from the Latin "undulatus", from "unda" (a wave); as an adjective, undulate means "having a wavy form, margin, or surface" (Webster's Unabridged Dictionary,1983) - probably refers to the wavy-margined band across the elytra
Numbers
One of about 60 species in the genus.
Identification
Elytra black with slightly wavy (undulate) orangish/yellowish band across middle, and small patch of same color at base and near apex; legs orangish/yellowish with femora darker apically; body long, slender, moderately cylindrical; pronotum slightly longer and narrower than head; antenna brown, about as long as head and pronotum combined, filiform, 11-segmented.
Range
Widely distributed in United States (recorded from many states, including AL AR AZ CA ID IL IN FL KS KY MI MD MN NC NJ NM NY OH SC SD TN TX WI).
In Canada, recorded from Ontario only.
Habitat
Sometimes attracted to lights.
Food
Probably bark and wood-boring beetles (the general prey of Cleridae).
