I found this fly in my back yard on the plant Cut Leaved Water Horehound, at 7pm. She was enjoying the taste of the flower.

dance fly
I saw an insect very similar to this one in our backyard, only the wings were purple and a little more pointed at the end. It is a noisy, buzzing flyer. Is it the same kind of fly?

Hard to say
with out a photograph. This fly is so small if she screamed I don't think it would be heard. Sorry, I can't help you.

Female dance fly.
This is a female dance fly, family Empididae. The fringed legs are pretty diagnostic in this case. Please unlink images if they are not all of the same individual specimen. Neat find!
