These in Arkansas would be the "Northern Two-striped Walking Stick". The two species are closely related, and some would argue that they are actually the same species. This one is smaller with a shorter head.

I agree.
This is a male (the other image is of the female) of the "devil rider" or "musk mare" walkingstick, Anisomorpha buprestoides. Be careful, as they can squirt a rank, milky substance from glands in their "neck." If it hits you in a mucous membrane it is very painful. They can eject the spray pretty accurately, too! Neat animals, tho.
