Wonderful Series...What Happened Next?
Did the velvet ant just wait until the Bembix left and then enter the nest? Or did the Bembix carry off the velvet ant to somewhere far off? Or...?

PS: This is great! A few minutes before finding your series, I had just read that Dasymutilla is a natural enemy of Bembix. BugGuide allows a legion of enthusiasts to combine and share records of our serendipitous natural history observations...and we get to see and learn so much more :-)

 
As I recall
the velvet ant wandered off (and so did we, shortly after).

Moved from ID Request. I split this one off from the rest so there would be a behavior record on the velvet ant page. There seemed to be disagreement over which species of velvet ant so I left it at genus. Move to species if there was actually agreement.
