Beefly. - Exoprosopa caliptera
Tuolomne meadows , Yosemite , California, USA
August 1, 2009
Size: 5/8 "
I had seen this large fly before in Manteca with no elevation and it seemed to thrive in the 8000 foot elevation in the meadow . It looks like the same type as the Arizona entry a few days ago , so I thought I would post it . It has luminous wings with beautiful patterns and certainly is a head-turner . Thanks for any comments , sincerely Beth

Looks like this one: Exoprosopa caliptera

Quite a distinctive fly, but I don't know for certain whether there are others like it. If you haven't received expert commentary here after a few days, please move post to Bee Flies for further scrutiny. Nice find, Beth!
