Frit Flies (Meromyza sp.)? - male - female

Frit Flies (Meromyza sp.)? - Male Female
Bear, New Castle County, Delaware, USA
August 9, 2009
Size: ~ 4 mm
Based on thickened hind femur these should be Meromyza sp. - looking for confirmation.
I observed many of these flies on Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight'. Some flies had yellow-pinkish abdomen and some had green abdomen and I thought I was looking at two different species until I also observed several mating pairs and just like this pair all the females had green abdomen. Is there any documentation supporting this observation?
