Skimmer 1- 8-09-09 - Libellula auripennis - male

Skimmer 1- 8-09-09 - Libellula auripennis - Male
Cass County, Texas, USA

Size: 2"
I am at a loss as to whether this is a Needham's Skimmer or a Golden-winged Skimmer. I have read and studied the diagnostics pages about the differences and I have images of other individuals that almost certainly are Golden -winged Skimmers. This one is definitely redder but I am aware that color is not the definitive diagnostic criteria. Unfortunately, none of the images included with this one really show the critical areas.

To further confuse the issue, I am right at the edge of the Needham's range according to"A Field Guide to Dragonflies of North America by Sidney W. Dunkle".
