First instar. C. maculata larvae are distinctive at egg hatch, with a deep brown color and orange markings on the thorax and abdomen.

I found these after they hatched, so there's no egg picture to start the life cycle series. The photo linked below shows a different C. maculata egg mass.


Plant: Daylily (Hemerocallis sp.). Many C. maculata adults visited the lily patch, where they fed on the abundant pollen as well as on insects.
