stone mountain, Georgia, USA

Size: body 1.5 inches
ID?
This was BY FAR the most unusual fly I've ever seen. I found him flying around inside a building. He flew in EXACTLY the same pose as he is perched on this wall, legs outstretched and in the same posture - body verticle to the ground. Slow flight but incredibly interesting. I ran for my camera and got this shot before he took off and disappeared :o(
So cool!
Thanks for ID help.

thanks!
thanks!

Moved from ID Request. "The common “phantom crane fly” may be easily recognized by the black and white banded legs and conspicuously swollen basitarsi." The Crane Flies of Pennsylvania

I'm not an expert,
but try looking at phantom crane flies.
