Lady beetle larva with prey - Day 4 - Coleomegilla maculata Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA July 18, 2009 Size: 2.9 mm, 1/8 inch
Second instar.
Prey: Small fly that I'd just swatted - I don't know what kind. The larva briefly fed on this dead prey before running after a live aphid.
Plant: Lady's thumb/smartweed (Polygonum sp.), my main source of aphids in July
