Interesting angle. (And very nice shots!)
They really have a different look from below. Thought tough to get, shots like this would aid in ID of many syrphids, including a pair I call "evil twins"- Eupeodes and Syrphus.

The evil twin phenomenon also comes into play here. This is Scaeva pyrastri, a close call over yet another Eupeodes.
