it's a katydid
Actually I think it's a False Katydid, Subfamily Phaneropterinae. Somebody on here might be able to tell you what it more precisely.

I love the "headline" about keeping her son busy all day. LOL! That is so great:-) This is indeed a katydid, a male roundheaded katydid, probably Amblycorypha oblongifolia, though there are now "more" species recognized by differences in the songs.
