Nice!
This is Archilestris magnificus, subfam Stenopogoninae.

Same here!
I was just about to post one from north of Sonoita, Santa Cruz County. On the same day I also watched two of them 'dancing' in the air - reminded me of a pair of Hawks grabbing each others Tallons in the air.
In other years I've sometimes seen one or two all year and few on the guide. I wonder whether they are getting more common??

Archilestris magnificus
I saw two individuals today (08-19-09) do just as you described. Zoom together with a loud buzzing (thought it was a hummingbird at first). They grabbed each other by their feet and started to fall to the ground. They seperated before hitting the ground each flying of into nearby trees. The force and power of their flight is very strong.
