Green Tabanid - Chlorotabanus crepuscularis - female

Green Tabanid - Chlorotabanus crepuscularis - Female
Turkey Lake, Florida, USA
September 16, 2005
A friend sent this from north Florida and it is the most impressive Tabanid I have ever seen. Don't know if there are any Tabanid guys out there. Appears to be a male and I rarely see male Tabanids anyway. Let alone lime green ones.

You can just see
that the eyes are not touching in the midline. This makes it a female. I have edited the heading to reflect this opinion.

Greenie
Looks like there is only one species in the genus. Thanks.

Green Horse Fly - Chlorotabanus crepuscularis
I got some shots of one of these this summer. Amazing aren't they! I can't be certain there isn't another species that's very similar, but no one mentioned it to me when I made my ID.
