Galls on Maple Leaf ...
On August 9 (10 days prior to when this midge photo was taken) I took a photo of some leaf galls on a Maple tree leaf that was only 5 feet away from where I later photographed this midge. Here is a link to an image of the leaf galls. Is it possible that this midge came from these galls?

 
Don't know
If you post the galls maybe Charley Eiseman can ID them, but I don't think these pictures are identifiable enough to confirm species. It's a hard family from what I've read.
