Potter Wasp - Eumenes fraternus - Female
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA

Size: circa 18 mm
This Potter Wasp was provisioning a nest inside the handle of a storage bin on my deck. It was having trouble handling this caterpillar, and I was able to get some photos.

Most Interesting
I captured the same scenario on my deck in Mobile, Alabama. Do you happen to know what caterpillar that is?

maybe a Geometer
I think this might be the caterpillar of a Geometer moth, Geometridae. I'm not sure, however.

I Found It!
You're right. It's a Fall Cankerworm caterpillar. They feed on tree near my deck. Also, the wasp guide page indicates the wasp provisions nest with cankerworm caterpillars. Thanks.

Very nice!
What a wonderful shot, Patrick! Shots that demonstrate the relationships between organisms are great to have here.
