Devil Rider - Anisomorpha buprestoides - male - female

Devil Rider - Anisomorpha buprestoides - Male Female
Sumrall, Lamar County, Mississippi, USA
September 6, 2005
Size: Female approx. 4"
I found this mating pair of devil riders underneath a wooden pallet.

title edited
I removed the scientific name from the title because that info gets automatically appended to the title when an image is moved or posted to a species page. (having the scientific name appear twice, side-by-side, is redundant and looks rather silly)

Nice shot!
I see you are a new poster - perhaps you are not aware that you can post an image directly to a species image page - in this case here - when you already know the ID. It helps if you note how you came by the ID for the benefit of other users. To move a posted image, tag and then go to the image page in question and use "move tagged images" button.

My fault:-)
This person queried me at AllExperts.com with a link to this image, and I suggested they post it here, without giving detailed instructions. Sorry 'bout that.

Welcome
Yes, welcome aboard. Nice photo of a neat find. Hope you'll keep posting, we need more images from south-central states like Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas.

Hi
Well I'm new here, and only have come to learn about these insects recently. I have been guiding my children out into the world of bugs....We found lots of these critters in our yard. After capturing a pair of devil riders my husband said: let them go and don't let the kids near them. One of his childhood memories is finding a bunch of them in an old refridgerator and they all started getting angry and spraying Well I was set on letting these two mate and let them go once their young were born :) After visiting these site, I was reluctant in letting them go but I knew it was best for the children. We now are only catching caterpillars!! After Halloween, I was out taking decorations off the fence-there was a pair mating and didn't realize I was just trying to get them out of the synthetic web and sprayed me; luckily only on my arm!!! But I had to ask very quickly if my daughter was alright-she was standing right next to me....scary little fellows. By the way we are in Northern Polk County in beautiful Florida!!
